At least four killed in gunfight in Mexican resort of Cancun

Departures happened when gunmen opened fire at government offices in the beach resort days after five perished in a closeby music festival

At least four individuals are killed after gunmen opened fire at government offices in the Mexican beach resort of Cancun, a day after at least five individuals perished in a shooting in a music festival nearby.

Rodolfo del Angel Campos, chief of police for the state of Quintana Roo, said gunfire broke out in the state attorney generals office in Cancun, a city which is among the most famous seaside destinations for foreign tourists in Mexico.

Joaquin, who took office described the strikes as a reaction to his crack down on organised crime, which he said had loved impunity for a long time by gangsters.

The ruling Institutional Revolutionary party (PRI) has been reviewing disciplinary actions against Joaquins forerunner, former PRI state governor Roberto Borge, whom the opposition has accused of fraud and corruption. He denies any wrongdoing.

As they fight for supremacy changes in power have already been proven to inflame turf wars between gangs.

On Monday, at least five people were killed and 15 wounded when a gunman opened fire in a club in the resort of Playa del Carmen. The shooting wasn’t being investigated as a suspected terror assault.
